Pit bull who fled after Brainerd accident found, returned to HART

Posted: Monday, April 13, 2009

Tank, the Heartland Animal Rescue Team foster dog who thought he was on his way to get a treat when a pickup truck crashed through the front of the Pet North store in Brainerd Thursday, is safe and sound.

While being led on a leash by Angee Johnson, the steel gray pit bull was heading into Pet North when a Dodge pickup driven by 90-year-old Arthur Durham of Brainerd smashed the front windows. Johnson was thrown to the ground and treated at St. Joseph's Medical Center. Also injured and seen at the hospital was Pet North employee Amanda Halvorson. Durham was not believed to have been injured, witnesses said.

In the confusion that followed Tank fled from the scene but he was found Friday night by Mississippi Terrace at 215 SW Fourth St. HART officials said Tank was in good condition back at the HART shelter.
