Staff members of Harmony House of Brainerd and the Horizon Health Employee Advisory Council took the message "Care can't wait" to state legislators.
Legislative action reduced Community Based Services funding in 2003 and froze the reduced level in 2004. Community Based Services funding pays for home care and assisted living services in Crow Wing County and across the state.
State providers of home health care and senior care services, as well as nursing homes, rallied at the Capitol and talked to legislators about funding concerns. Those attending met with Sen. Paul Koering, R-Fort Ripley, and Rep. Greg Blaine, R-Little Falls, to share their concerns about the future of senior services.
Those who attended included Lil Rychner, Carlene Johnsen, Shirley Boser, Colette Gangl, board chair Lorae Vardas, Mary Kokett, Dorothy Oldakowski, Michele Harakele-Henifin and Barb Rebischke.
