The Brainerd Parks and Recreation Department has scheduled another year of acts for Performances in the Park.
Performances are scheduled at 7 p.m. Thursdays at Gregory Park. There is no admission charge.
Performances in the Park will open June 8 with Julie Olson, who grew up listening to her father play guitar. A University of Minnesota student, Olson describes her style as "acoustic rock." Olson mostly performs her original songs.
On June 15, The Amazing Jeffo will entertain the audience. Considered America's premier blind magician, The Amazing Jeffo's magic is humorous, entertaining and educational. The Amazing Jeffo will offer a class to students before his show. Cost for the class is $12 and includes handouts and magic tricks. Call the Parks and Recreation Department at 828-2320 to register for the class.
On June 22, the vocal duo of Fyder & Everhart will perform. Fyder & Everhart combine tight harmonies, well-known and original songs and a "straight from the heart" style.
Direct from Sweden, Cajsa Ekstav will perform June 29. In 1990, Ekstav received the title of "Riksspelman" (fiddler of the nation), the highest award one can get as a fiddler in Sweden. Ekstav plays the typical Swedish instrument nyckelharpa and the fiddle. She has performed worldwide.
Charlie Roth will come to town July 13. Roth combines stories, jokes and songs during his performance. From his original song "I'm a Country Cliche" to Weird Al Yankovic's "Generic Blues" Roth shares novelty songs he has collected from more than 20 years as a professional musician.
Concluding the summer program will be Mauer & Stewart, who will perform July 20. The duo features music and words of black composers to modern Rhythm and Blues.
