Bill Demmers was recently presented a 60-year pin and certificate marking his years as a member of the International Typographical Union. Demmers who worked some 40 years as a linotype operator for The Brainerd Daily Dispatch, was given the pin by Joe Melby, Composing Room foreman.
30 years ago (1970)
Winners of the recent Franklin Junior High School Science Fair have been named. Brad and Brian Schultz took the Grand Prize with their exhibit of paints.
40 years ago (1960)
Rainfall in the Brainerd area was fairly general overnight. Brainerd recorded 1.05 inches. The rainfall brought welcome relief to weary fire-fighting crews who battled three more blazes yesterday after halting eight fires Monday.

-- Robert Hoffman and Robert Russell are leaving tomorrow morning to spend the weekend in Minneapolis.
-- Miss Mary Tornstrom will leave tomorrow morning to attend the Annual Dean of Women in High Schools and Colleges meeting to be held at Hamline University.

-- John W. Crow went to Brainerd on Tuesday to have some teeth repairing done at the dentist's office.
-- Mr. and Mrs. Parker Waite and Mr. and Mrs. Fremond Turcotte motored to Pillager and visited friends.
