For the 10th year, Crow Wing County licensed child care providers are offering a day of fun for area children and a variety of information for their parents.
The annual Day of the Young Child festival has been planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Brainerd High School.
About 1,500 children are anticipated to attend the event, said Lisa Weiss, committee chair and a Crow Wing County Licensed Family Childcare Association member.
Booths will line the hallways through the high school. Five carnival games, face painting and other activities will be offered for children. Also, a magician, a musician, Puffo the Clown, Mother Goose, Smokey the Bear and Robbie the Car will be there. Children will be allowed to explore an ambulance and a fire truck and watch a performance by the Jaks Dance Studio. Music General will have musical instruments on hand for children to play.
About 20 organizations from the community will hand out information, including Brainerd School District Early Childhood Family Education, Camp Confidence, Lakes Area Children's Museum, County Extension Services, TCC/Head Start, Sexual Assault Services, Learning Tree Preschool, Baxter Youth Shelter and Crow Wing Public Health Department.
The event is sponsored by the child care association with help from area 4-H ambassadors and the Brainerd FFA.
The event is free, but organizers ask that those who attend the Day of the Young Child festival bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to the area food shelf.
