BAXTER -- The Deerwood Bank presented its fifth annual Teaching Children to Save Day Thursday at Baxter Elementary School. Bank representatives handed out activity sheets and coin pouches to first-graders and told them how they could join Buckaroo's Savings Clubhouse.
Some students already have gotten in the habit of saving money.
"I have my own account at my grandma's bank," said Adam Bandemer, 7.
Amber Moss, 7, likes to save money to buy her favorite movies on DVD.
"It's cool to save money to buy stuff. I'm saving up to buy 'Spirit' on DVD," she said.
The visit to Baxter Elementary School was part of a program organized by the Minnesota Bankers Association to promote financial education at all levels.
"Even at the high school age, when people acquire disposable income, not everyone has learned good spending habits," said Leo Miller, consumer banking manager at Deerwood Bank.
