Disabled American Veterans
The monthly meeting for DAV Crow Wing County Chapter No. 22 and Auxiliary will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Brainerd VFW Club.
Free training for mental illness
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Minnesota will hold a free training for parents and professionals who work with children in need of residential treatment due to mental illness from 1-4 p.m. for professionals and from 5-8 p.m. for parents Wednesday at District One Community Center., 43500 Virgo Rd., Onamia.
In separate trainings, parents and professionals will learn about Voluntary Placement Agreements. This agreement allows families to maintain custody of their child while obtaining necessary funding for the child's treatment. The trainings also include information on mental illness in children, out of home placement, advocating for your child, funding eligibility, and more. This training will focus on the needs of Native American families.

Motley Area Historical Society to meet

Welcome back snowbirds, frozen survivors and customer appreciation party
BACKUS - The Backus American Legion will have a welcome back snowbirds, frozen survivors and customer appreciation party from 4-8 p.m. April 18.
The party will feature a Hawaiian luau theme and include complementary food and door prizes, a 30-package meat raffle, South Seas costume contest and musical comedy skits. Costume judging and prizes will be at 6 p.m.
The clubrooms are located at Hwys. 371 and 87 West.
Backus senior dance
BACKUS - The Frankie Lamb Band returns to the Backus American Legion monthly senior dance from 2-6 p.m. April 19. The band plays classic country and pop tunes, old time and swing. Singles and couples welcome.
BAXTER - Pinetree Patchworkers quilt club will meet at 6:45 p.m. Monday at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Baxter. Leeann Werner will present the program "The Many Links Between Gardening and Quilting." Anyone interested in quilting is invited to attend the meeting.
Quilt Bingo will be April 19 at the Lakes Area Senior Activity Center. A shoe and purse sale will begin at 11 a.m. and bingo will start at 1:30 p.m. Cost will be $5 for 14 games per card, $1 per card for coverall. Each bingo winner will have their pick of a quilt. After bingo there will be a free lunch. Proceeds benefit the Lakes Area Senior Activity Center, 803 Kingwood Street, Brainerd.
Lakes Area Caged Bird Club
The Lakes Area Caged Bird Club will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Oak Lawn Township Hall located one mile east of the junction of Highways 18 and 25. Wild and Free

The American Legion Post No. 255 will host a steak dinner by the 40 et 8 778 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday for the nurse's training scholarship. Cost: $8. An award will be presented after the dinner.
Smoked barbecue rib fest
The Little Falls Lions will have a smoked barbecue rib fest from 4-8 p.m. April 25 at the Little Falls Golf Course. Adult tickets will be $9 at the door. A youth-sized meal is $5. Proceeds will go to Relay for Life and other local projects.
Cake off scheduled for May 2
The Miss Brainerd Lakes Scholarship Pageant Cake Off will be May 2 at the Westgate Mall. Any home business cake decorators interested in competing should contact Brainerd Community Action at 829-5278 for more information and an entry form. The cake off is free to enter.
