NISSWA -- The Minnesota Basha of the China-Burma-India Veterans Association will have its spring reunion May 1 at the Nisswa American Legion.
The association is recognized as a national, non-profit veterans' organization with memberships open to all personnel who served in or with the armed forces of the United States in China, Burma or India during World War II.
The aims and purposes of the CBIVA are: To faithfully serve the country in peace as in war; to promote a feeling of fellowship by renewing old acquaintanceships and making new friends among those who have a common bond, by reason of their mutual services in or with the Armed Services of the United States of America, in the CBI Theater of operations in World War II; to preserve the recollections, comradeship and experiences of Americans who have served in the Orient; to pay tribute to and preserve the memory of those who gave their lives in defense of their country; to maintain proper standards of dignity and honor among all veterans of WWII; to establish, organize and regulate local branches (known as Bashas) throughout the United States, its territories and possessions, and to hold and participate in national, district and statewide meetings for the furtherance of the aims and purposes herein enumerated.
The national CBIVA was born Aug. 28, 1948, in Milwaukee, Wis. The Minnesota Basha was chartered in 1976 in Minneapolis and presently has about 180 dues paying members. Membership area is Minnesota, North and South Dakota and western Wisconsin. CBIVA chartered Bashas are located across the country.
There are two reunion meetings per year, one in the spring (May) and one in the fall (October), held in different locations to facilitate the amount of traveling required to attend.
The organization is still finding CBI veterans who are not aware of this organization who were part of the war in China, Burma and India. Anyone interested in attending the spring reunion at Nisswa should contact Blanche Brauns, Nisswa, at 963-4489 before April 23.
