20 years ago (1981)

"Thank you. After 27 years of serving central Minnesota with fine fashions in men's wear, I have decided to retire from the retail business. Therefore I sold my store to my son Bob Jr. and my son-in-law, Mark Parrish." -- Bob Brekken, Sr.

30 years ago (1971)

Dick Lagergren, ending a 12-year football coaching career at Brainerd High School announced his resignation to Superintendent Elliot Whoolery overall, his elevens here won 55 games, lost 49 and tied three. They were 5-3-1 in 1969 and 4-4 last fall.

40 years ago (1961)

Importance of being earnest about a future career was the theme of Harvey Ring's address to high school and junior college athletes of Brainerd honored at last night's eighth annual Brainerd Quarterbacks All-Prep Banquet.

60 years ago (1941)

Good Friday was celebrated in the customary fashion by the weather this morning as cloudy skies and showers visited the Brainerd region. Temperatures alone presented a bright picture as a 60 above recording was read.

80 years ago (1921)

-- Con O'Brien, H.F. Michael and F.H. Gruenhagen went to St. Cloud to look at Bithulitic Paving laid there.

-- Joe Erickson, Verndale, left Monday for Brainerd where he will consult doctors in regard to his health.

100 years ago (1901)

A new clothing store will probably be opened in this city soon. Walter Davis has received an offer to lease his storeroom on East Front Street now occupied by himself from the Vanstrum Clothing Co. of Minneapolis, who propose to establish a branch house here.
