Dear Heloise: Do you know how to make the different flavors in INSTANT CAPPUCCINO-TYPE COFFEES or where one could get the recipes? -- D.E. Butler, Arbuckle, Calif.
I sure do! One of my favorites is Cafe Vienna, and here's the recipe:
1/2 cup instant coffee granules
2/3 cup granulated sugar (or appropriate amount of artificial sweetener)
2/3 cup powdered milk or coffee creamer (nonfat can be used)
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Combine and mix well. For a cup of coffee, just put about 2 rounded teaspoons of the flavored blend into an 8-ounce cup and add boiling water. Stir well.
For a quick "fix," sprinkle a dash of nutmeg, cinnamon or even allspice in the bottom of the coffeepot, then brew as usual -- it's a nice change. -- Heloise
NONSKID SHELF LINER
Dear Heloise: I have found that nonskid shelf liner can be used for many different things.
I have discovered that cutting a piece to fit under my cutting board keeps it from sliding across the countertop when I am chopping vegetables. -- Kim Luensmann, Marion, Texas
Dear Heloise: Have you ever placed a banana in your lunch and ended up with your sandwiches smelling like the banana? Yuck!
Well, I found that if I wrap the banana in foil first and then add it to my lunch, it keeps the banana aroma on the banana. -- F.M., Colorado Springs, Colo.
Dear Heloise: Here's what I do to save on the grocery bill: All of my leftovers that are OK to be used in soup are put into small containers and then into the freezer.
Then when a good soup day comes, I thaw as many of the leftovers as I will need for the amount of soup I'm making, put them in a pot and bring to a boil, then let them simmer a little while.
Then I've got a meal that has most of the required vitamins in it, and it hasn't cost much. Serve with a salad and dessert. -- B.S.D., Winston-Salem, N.C.
