The Brainerd School Board approved the revised budget from October 1999 to March 2000 Monday.
In the general fund, the district spent about $518,000 over the amount it made. The building and grounds department saved money this year with the mild winter by plowing less snow and using less heat, saving $185,000. About $44,000 in Social Security was also saved. Transportation went up, as well as money for severance pay, in the amount of $160,000.
The food service fund increased from October. Food expenses went up 13 percent from $754,000 to $871,000.
Debt service stayed the same since October at $141,000. In the community education department, the district spent twice as much from October -- about $141,000. The anticipated revenues for the department are about $1.26 million and its projected expenditures are about $1.4 million.
The board also agreed to go with Mutual of Omaha for dental insurance. Its 12-month rate for a single policy is $30.77; spouse, $53.40; child, $53.40; and family, $84.17. These rates cannot exceed 10 percent.
