CenterPoint Energy reminds customers that Cold Weather Rule protection ends Wednesday.
Thousands of CenterPoint Energy customers, who owe a combined $58 million in past-due natural gas bills, are subject to having their natural gas service disconnected.
The Minnesota Cold Weather Rule protects residential customers having difficulty paying their natural gas bill from having their natural gas service disconnected from Oct. 15 through April 15. It does not completely rule out the possibility of disconnection but provides qualified customers extra protection as defined in the rule.
If a customer receives a Notice of Proposed Disconnection, needs service reconnected or anticipates having trouble paying their natural gas bill in full, they are urged to call CenterPoint Energy immediately to enter into a payment plan. The plan will cover what is an owed and projected bill and will take into consideration a customer's financial circumstances and other extenuating circumstances.
If customers need help paying their bill, they should contact CenterPoint Energy to learn about available payment options and energy assistance. Customers also may request Budget Billing Plan, a service CenterPoint Energy offers to help customers avoid payment peaks by spreading their heating costs throughout the year.
To make a payment and avoid service disruption, call CenterPoint Energy at (612) 372-4680 or (800) 729-6164 or go Online at www.CenterPointEnergy.com/paybill.
