NEWFOLDEN, Minn. (AP) -- A 13-year-old rural Newfolden girl was found safe Thursday after authorities issued an AMBER Alert.
Renae Waterworth went missing after leaving her home a couple of miles outside of Newfolden in northwestern Minnesota to go running with the family dog around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
But Marshall County Sheriff Herb Maurstad said Thursday morning that the girl had been found alive and well in a church in Karlstad, about 20 miles northwest of Newfolden. He said he didn't know how she got there, but assumed she walked.
Under an AMBER Alert, the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension releases information about suspected kidnappings of children 17 years old or younger to the news media, law enforcement agencies and businesses.
Newfolden is about 50 miles northeast of Grand Forks, N.D.
