VFW Auxiliary Unit 2701 accepts charter, installs officers

After nearly a 29-year absence, VFW Auxiliary Unit 2701 became a reality Saturday. Department of Minnesota and 6th District Auxiliary officers came to Walker to install Auxiliary Unit 2701's officers.

They are Millie Borchert, guard; Marie Lyndall, junior vice; Joanne Marine, senior vice; Nancy Wegner, unit president; Jayne Geving, secretary/treasurer; and Mary Wheeler, conductor.

Performing the installation was Helen Broich from 6th District. The auxiliary will meet the second Tuesday of the month in the back room of The Wharf. Anyone interested in becoming a member of the Auxiliary should come to a meeting and talk with the members.

VFW Post 2701 meets the second Tuesday of every month at Benson's. Anyone interested in joining should come to a meeting.PINE RIVER -- A spaghetti supper benefit for Brittany Ross, a 13-year-old Pine River resident, will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Pine River American Legion.

Benefit planned Saturday for Pine River teen

Brittany has spindle cell sarcoma, a malignant tumor that was starting to spread at the time of diagnosis. She has been receiving chemotherapy and radiation treatments at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and will have surgery in the near future.

The benefit will help cover expenses for this treatment, along with travel, lodging, medication and miscellaneous costs.

Cost of the spaghetti dinner with bread, salad and bars will be $5 with children under age 6 eating free. There will be live music and donated merchandise will be raffled.

There also is a benefit account set up at the US Bank in Pine River in the name of Brittany Ross for anyone wishing to make donations.

Cass Council on Aging to meet Monday

OUTING -- The Cass County Council on Aging will meet at 1 p.m. Monday at the Outing Town Hall in Outing.

The Outing Senior Club will serve lunch at noon for a small donation.

After the business meeting, representatives from the National Eagle Center in Wabasha will present a program on the center's programs and purpose, along with information on the eagles.

The Cass County TRIAD will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Law Enforcement Center meeting room at the courthouse in Walker.
