Pierz conducts volleyball tournament

The Pierz Volleyball Club hosted a co-ed adult volleyball tournament Sunday at Healy High School with 12 teams from Brainerd, St. Cloud, Albany, Royalton, Little Falls and Pierz participating.

Tournament results are as follows:

1st Place -- Paula Rossum, Mary Miller, Margaret Wiskow, Dan Clabo, Trevor Roth and Nate Eckman.

2nd Place -- Steve Kimman, Scott Kimman, Adam Langer, Cindy Kimman, Rhonda Pietz and Heather Peschl.

3rd Place -- Liz Lee, Wendell Meidinger, Dorthy Meidinger, Zac Meidinger, Cecilia Meidinger, Gabrieal Meidinger and Mark Shoeney.

4th Place -- Danny Gangl, Kelly Gangl, Lisa Henry, Toni Gangl, Jerry Talberg and Mike Talberg.

Walker angler wins PWT tournament

TRENTON, Mich. -- With a 39.80-pound catch on day three, Tommy Skarlis of Walker claimed the top prize at the PWT Mideast Pro-Am on the Detroit River.

The victory earned Skarlis, who had a three-day total weight of 98.69 pounds, $50,500. In second place was Kim "Chief" Papineau, Escanaba, Mich., with 92.62 pounds. Gary Gray, Oshkosh, Wis., was third, with 89.14 pounds.

It was the first victory for Skarlis, who previously had six top 10 finishes and who has qualified for every PWT Championship since 1996. This victory guarantees him an invitation to the PWT Championship in September.

Several weight records were broken. The "money" walleyes were all over 10.71 pounds. The biggest was a 13.15-pounder (a PWT pro record) by Dave Frey, Avon Lake, Ohio. A PWT record was set with 10 walleyes over 11 pounds. The average weight was 4.5 pounds.

Next tour stop is on the Missouri River and Lake Francis Case in Chamberlain and Oacoma, South Dakota, April 25-27.

Fitness Frenzy run/walk rescheduled

The Brainerd Parks and Recreation Department has rescheduled the Fitness Frenzy Spring Break 5km run/walk to 10 a.m. Saturday, April 21, at Kiwanis Park.

The event is free to Fitness Frenzy participants. Others will be charged $10. All participants will be eligible for prize drawings.

Baseball registration deadline Friday

Registration deadline for the Brainerd Parks and Recreation Department's Mustang, Bronco and Pony baseball leagues is Friday.

A baseball skills clinic for Mustang, Bronco and Pony leagues is 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at Memorial Park. Players must be registered before they can attend the clinic.

Miller scores 25 points in series

Little Falls guard Nate Miller scored 25 points in the Minnesota Boys' Basketball All-Star Series last weekend at St. John's University in Collegeville and Hopkins Lindbergh High School.

Miller had 15 points in the Maroon team's 118-117 win over the Gold squad Friday. He added 10 in the Maroon team's 114-113 loss to the Blue team in Saturday's championship game.
