The Brainerd Warriors junior varsity softball team opened its season Saturday by defeating Moorhead twice.
In the first game the Warriors won 22-3. The winning pitcher was Laura Clemens, who had seven strikeouts and only one walk. Ashley Rodriquez went 2-for-3 at the plate, including an over-the-fence home run and 4 RBI. The Warriors had nine stolen bases in the game which only went five innings.
The second game was also called after five innings as the Warriors won 22-11. Amber Thompson was the winning pitcher and went 2-for-2 at the plate with a double and triple. Nancy Erickson went 2-for-4 for the Warriors who had 12 stolen bases.
Ostmans in series
Tyler Ostman of Brainerd was a goaltender for the '88 boys' North team that competed in the Minnesota Selects Hockey Festival March 30 through April 2 in St. Cloud. Lori Ostman of Brainerd was the team manager.
