Oak Street reconstruction project to resume
The city of Brainerd will resume the Oak Street reconstruction project Monday.
Construction will begin at the intersection of 11th Street and Oak Street and will continue on through the intersection of 19th Street and Oak Street.
Completion through 14th Street, including underground and base-course paving, is anticipated by May 28.
The traffic detour will start at 11th Street and head one block south to Pine Street. It will then head east on Pine Street over to 19th Street where it will join back up with Oak Street.
Final completion of this phase of the project will be no later than Aug. 15.
The general contractor is Anderson Brothers Construction Co., Brainerd, and Short Elliott Hendrickson, Baxter, is providing the engineering for the project.
Child passenger safety training set
DEERWOOD -- Child passenger safety is the subject of a presentation April 22 in Deerwood.
The Crow Wing County Child Abuse Prevention Council along with Brainerd Kiwanis and Crow Wing County Passenger Safety Coalition is sponsoring the event 6 to 8 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Deerwood.
Cost for the training is $5. The program seeks to educate participants on Minnesota law on restraining children in a vehicle, the importance of child safety seats, how to select an appropriate seat and how to install the child restraint correctly.
Those attending will be encouraged to schedule an appointment at the Car Seat Inspection Clinic on April 29 at the Deerwood Fire Hall. Participants may qualify to receive a free car seat at the clinic. Advance registration is requested. Child care is available.

Rental meeting set
A Brainerd rental property owners and managers meeting will be 7 p.m. Monday at the Brainerd Police Department.
Guests will be Ron Anderson, rental license inspector, and Joe Schmidt, building inspector.

Brainerd PUC to meet Tuesday
A special meeting of the Brainerd Public Utilities Commission will be 9 a.m. Tuesday in the Brainerd Public Utilities Service Center, 8027 Highland Scenic Road.
The commission will discuss the wastewater treatment concept plan, well No. 7, the surplus equipment sale and any other business that may come up before the commission.
County DFLers to meet Thursday
The Crow Wing County DFL will meet 7 p.m. Thursday in the meeting room at the Brainerd Public Library.
