Brainerd Warriors girls' track and field coach Geri Skogen will be the speaker at the Brainerd Sports Boosters Club meeting, which begins noon Thursday at the Sharing Bread Soup Kitchen located at 923 Oak St. between the Triangle Store and Temple Baptist Church.
Jason Roberts, the Warrior Athlete of the Week, will be honored.
Tautges batting .361 for Waldorf
Freshman Joey Tautges of Brainerd is hitting .361 in 19 games for Waldorf (Iowa) College this spring.
In 61 at bats he has 22 hits, eight doubles, two home runs, and 13 RBI. Tautges is hitting fifth in the Warriors' lineup and has caught and played second and third.
Weiland 1-1 for North Dakota
Brainerd High School graduate Nick Weiland is 1-1 in four appearances with the University of North Dakota baseball team this season.
Weiland, a sophomore, has pitched 18 innings, giving up 25 hits and six walks with 14 strikeouts. He has started two games for the Sioux.
Brainerd area Special Olympians compete
Three adult teams of Special Olympics athletes attended the Minnesota Special Olympics state basketball competition April 5-6 in Monticello.
The master division team of Chris Pfanz, Jesse Borders, Kenny Holst, Joe Freitag, Chris Nuhring, Chris Easterling and Derrick Hanson repeated last year's performance by obtaining silver medals. The team is coached by Chester Zolondek, assisted by Gary Peterson and Jenny Kolling.
The gold medal went to Dustin Strobel, Jenny Kosloski, David Thesing, Ryan Pourrier, Brandon Kluth, Jerry Barthel and Richard Glendening, Jr. in the senior division. Jake Moser coached the gold medal team, assisted by James Armstrong.
Winning bronze medals in the open division were Kari Jagol, Angie Gorder, Jenny Reinhart, Larry Erickson, Tanya Gard, Bobbi Jo Lamont and Rodney Falcon, Jr. Dan Croteau coached the team, assisted by Kris Willemsen and Sheila Butler.
