The Franklin Junior High School seventh grade enriched Mathematics class recently finished first out of 500 schools in the fifth section of the six-part nationwide Sigma Junior High Mathematics League contest.

Some proposals for the use of $670,000 in school tuition and gross earnings funds were presented to the Brainerd School Board. The money involved has come to the district in the form of gross earnings funds which is in lieu of railroad property taxes, and in the form of left-over tuition funds following consolidation.

Devoting untold hours to financial problems and matters of policy is the steering committee labeled "Library Board." Members of the board are Bob Turcotte, Walter Armstrong, Mrs. S.G. Fitzpatrick, Mrs. Tom Hall, Mrs. L.L. Bissinger and Harold W. Peterson.

Alex Ruttger, Deerwood, was elected president of the Minnesota United, Land of Ten Thousand Lakes organization at the first meeting of the organization held at the Curtis Hotel.

Wright and Son Hardware Store will soon put up a large electric sign measuring 17 feet 6 inches in length and 62 inches in width. The colors will be blue and white.
100 years ago (1902)
The chaplain at the Stillwater Penitentiary has had his salary reduced from $1200 per year to $5 per Sunday when on duty by the State Board of Control. It is not known whether the value of the sermons will be reduced accordingly or not.
