20 years ago (1989)

Final plans for a new All Veterans Memorial to be placed between the Crow Wing County Courthouse and the Brainerd Post Office are nearly complete. Architecture One, of Brainerd, is doing the design.

30 years ago (1979)

Brainerd's large electrical users were unsuccessful in their attempt to sway the Water and Light Board's decision to raise their rates by an average of 60.5 percent.

40 years ago (1969)

The Brainerd School Board, in a committee session, reaffirmed its decision not to accept the Homebrook Township area of the Nisswa school district. The board said it would ask Cass County to attach the area to the Pillager district.

60 years ago (1949)

Tomorrow will be the seventh anniversary of the fall of that beleaguered outpost of American freedom known as Bataan. The National Guard asks that all flags in Brainerd be flown at half staff from 8 a.m. until noon in honor of those who gave their lives.

80 years ago (1929)

Hundreds will gather tonight at the UCT Auditorium to witness colorful wrestling and boxing matches. Eight preliminary bouts will precede Johnny Beck vs. Fred Ross for the Minnesota Lightweight Wrestling title.

100 years ago (1909)

Mayor-elect Ousdahl has authorized The Dispatch to state that he has made no promises as to appointments, and that anyone who claims to have his promise is telling what is not so.
