Brainerd Parks and Recreation Department's annual Easter egg hunt will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lum Park.

The egg hunt is for children ages 2 to 7.

The Easter egg hunt is sponsored by the Brainerd Rotary Club, Granite City Jobbing and the Brainerd Parks and Recreation Department. Bring something to collect eggs in. Wear appropriate clothing and boots for weather conditions.

Brainerd will be one of 11 state sites for Tax Day Tea Party protest

Brainerd will be one of 11 sites statewide for a Tax Day Tea Party protest on April 15. The Brainerd party will run from 5 to 8 p.m. April 15 at Kiwanis Park at Boom Lake.

The event will include socializing and speeches from 5 to 7 p.m. and a ceremonial dumping of tea at 7 p.m. April 15. The location is Kiwanis Park at Boom Lake in south Brainerd.

Those attending are encouraged to wear 1770s attire and bring their own buoyant pillow case/tea bags with a slogan written on it. The party is designed to protest government bailouts and high taxes.

Among the sponsors are the Minnesota Free Market Institute and the Taxpayers League of Minnesota.

No glass or alcohol are allowed at the park.

Pat Anderson, president of the Minnesota Free Market Institute and former Republican state auditor, said the protest is primarily aimed at the federal level.

"It has to do with the spending, the socialism we're heading into, the latest budget," she said.

The individual tea parties are being organized at the grassroots, she said, primarily by people who are not party activists.

"You see a lot of these people coming out of the woodwork with heavy concerns," Anderson said.

Breast cancer 3-Day meeting planned

The Breast Cancer 3-Day season is kicking off with Get Started meetings. A Brainerd meeting will be 2-3:30 p.m. April 18 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1420 S. Sixth St., Brainerd.

These meetings provide the information and inspiration individuals are looking for as they decide if they're ready to lace up their shoes and walk 60 miles in three days in the fight against breast cancer. Even if individuals are already registered they can still attend.
