PINE RIVER -- Erwin Griep, 83, Pine River, died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis.
He was born June 29, 1919, in LeSueur to Richard and Emma (Tressmer) Griep. He entered the Army on July 7, 1942, in Fort Snelling. He served with the 95th Division 378th Regiment I Company in France during World War II. He married Pauline Amborn on June 26, 1947, in Watertown. In 1951, they moved to Sauk Centre from Minneapolis where he worked as a watch repairman. In August of 1957 he purchased the jewelry store in Pine River. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 613 in Pine River, Jenkins VFW and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited, Minnesota Deer Hunters Association and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pine River.
Survivors include two sons, Mike Griep, Pine River, and Thomas Griep, Los Angeles; two daughters, Pat Hanson, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Terrie Griep, Pine River; two grandchildren; three brothers, Earl Griep, Henderson, Malen Griep, Orlando, Fla., and Ray Griep, LeSueur; and three sisters, Irene Spellman, Henderson, Annette Hensler, LeSueur, and Beverly Bozak, Minneapolis.
His wife; and two sisters, Edna and Marlene, died earlier.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pine River with the Rev. Edward Foster officiating. Burial will be private in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today with prayer services at 7 p.m. at Kline Funeral Home in Pine River.
