Bernadette C. Opatz, age 75, resident of Brainerd, died Sunday, April 3, 2005, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd. Bernadette was born on Jan. 6, 1930, in Bowlus, Minn. She married David F. Opatz May 22, 1950. David died Aug. 23, 1987. They moved from Minneapolis to Brainerd in 1970. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd and the Moose and Elk Lodges.
Survivors include her son, Aaron Opatz, and his wife, Marla, of Brainerd, and grandsons, Alan and Andy Opatz; her daughter, Shere Opatz Rehberger Crichton, and her husband, Jim, of Lake Villa, Ill., and grandchildren, Jerra Rehberger, and Brandt and Connor Crichton, and great-grandchild, Savaiya Nylund; her siblings, Regina Bursey Warzecha, Johnny (Leona) Bursey, Raymond Bursey, Eddie (Marion) Bursey, Clarence (Irene) Bursey, Genny Bursey Benusa, Robert Bursey, Ronald (Nancy) Bursey, Donald (Darlene) Bursey, Janice Bursey Altman, and Pete (Karen) Bursey.
Her parents, Peter and Lucy (Kupka) Bursey; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Elizabeth (Schibilla) Opatz; siblings, Minnie Bursey (Ted) Sowada, Mary Bursey Sobnia, Alois Bursey, George Bursey, Richard Bursey, sibling spouses, Irene Bursey, Elmer Warzecka, Roger Benusa and Gertie Bursey, died earlier.
Mass of Christian Burial will be noon Thursday, April 7, 2005, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd with Father Bill Skarich officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home with a rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation also will be the hour before services at the church on Thursday.
