WALKER -- The Cass County Board voted Tuesday to sign an agreement to provide contract law enforcement services to the city of Remer, effective May 1.
Like a contract with the city of Lake Shore already in place, the Remer contract calls for the city to pay the equipment and employee costs for one deputy to work under the sheriff on special assignment to that city.
The board also approved purchasing a car for the special deputy, which the city will repay to the county under the contract.
As a part of an annual rotation of sheriff's department vehicles, the board authorized purchasing three 2005 Ford Taurus sedans for $11,946.30 each under state contracts with Elk River Ford, Dodge and Jeep.
The county board passed a resolution Tuesday supporting the Leech Lake Association's program to improve fishing on Leech Lake by controlling cormorant bird populations, setting slot size and reduced limit regulations, stocking fingerlings and improving lake habitat.
The board referred comments from County Attorney Earl Maus, Administrator Robert Yochum and Cass Lake Mayor Elaine Fleming to Kitchigami Library Director Marian Ridge concerning proposed changes to the regional library's joint powers agreement with member cities and counties. The library board is scheduled to review comments received at an April 28 special meeting.
The board authorized applying for a $30,000 U.S. Department of Agriculture rural development grant the Cass County Economic Development Corp. would administer to provide consultant services to cities within the county.
