WALKER -- The Cass County Board Tuesday approved a three-year pay increase package for non-union employees and elected officials, reflecting the same terms as union contracts settled for 2005-2007.
The county will pay 2 percent raises effective Jan. 1 this year and 3 percent Jan. 1, 2006, and Jan. 1, 2007. Any employee not still on probationary status July 1 each year will receive a pay scale step increase mid-year as well. That amounts to about 3 percent.
Employees who have reached the top (10th) step of their grade will receive a lump sum Dec. 1 of each year equal to 1.5 percent of the employee monthly base as of that date multiplied by the total full years of Cass County service instead of a step increase.
Cass County will pay $655 per month per employee for group hospitalization and life insurance, with an option available to employees to purchase at their own expense additional group hospitalization for the employee and/or dependents, a health care reimbursement account, a day care reimbursement account, and a taxable income plan, a deferred income plan or short-term disability.
The county provides a separate group plan for retired employees for group hospitalization, additional group hospitalization for the retired employee and/or dependents and life insurance for those who were hired before 1992.
Those eligible for the retiree plan must have worked for the county at least 10 years if they were hired before 1992, or 1991 for law enforcement, or 20 years if hired after those dates.
