20 years ago (1984)

The biggest traffic jam in Crow Wing County may be at the Brainerd Public Library. All in the space of a few feet, people are looking for a good book. In short, the 80-year old building cries out for the busting-at-the-seams clich.

30 years ago (1974)

Seventy-two students in the seventh, eighth, and ninth grades at Washington Junior High finished the third quarter with an "A" average of 3.75 or better.

40 years ago (1964)

The walls of Brainerd's new junior college building are going up. A large crew of bricklayers is making rapid progress on the exterior walls. The new building will be completed by Sept. 15.

60 years ago (1944)

Two Brainerd brothers, both stationed in England, met recently in London. Lt. Parker Campbell and Pvt. Robert Campbell Jr., sons of Mr. and Mrs. R.T. Campbell, 412 1/2 North 4th Street, arranged a meeting in the English capital after learning they were both stationed in the same country.

80 years ago (1924)

Teacher, "Heat expands and cold contracts. Give me an example."

Charles, "In summer the days are very long; while in winter they are short."

100 years ago (1904)

It has been understood that Mayor Halsted did not take kindly to the ordinance passed at last night's meeting of the city council raising the telephone rate in the resident part of the city and that he had vetoed the same.
