County outstanding senior citizen sought

Posted: Tuesday, April 06, 2004

Nominations are being solicited from county residents for the 2004 Outstanding Senior Citizens of Crow Wing County.

One man and one woman who are 70 or older by Aug. 1 will be selected on the basis of outstanding community involvement within the county. They will be honored as part of Senior Day beginning at 10 a.m. July 15 in Mission Park. The awards ceremony will be 1 p.m.

Those selected will receive special certificates of commendation from the governor and their names will be submitted to the Minnesota Board of Aging for the state selection process for the Minnesota Outstanding Senior Citizens. The state winners are announced at the Minnesota State Fair on Senior Day, the second Thursday of the fair.

Persons wishing to make nominations for the county awards can obtain official nomination forms by writing to Senior Advocates at P.O. Box 220, Pierz, MN 56364, or by calling (320) 468-6451 or toll free at (800) 224-6451. Forms have been distributed to county volunteer coordinators and senior centers.

The deadline for nominations is May 26.

Judging will be based primarily on the number and variety of volunteer contributions nominees have made to their communities after age 65.

Nominees must be residents of Minnesota and the county they represent. Previous county winners not selected as a state winner are eligible to participate again at the county level.
