SOUTH ST. PAUL (AP) (USDA) -- Friday cattle: 900.

Compared to Thursday, not enough slaughter steers, heifers and Holstein steers for a market. Slaughter cows and bulls sold mostly steady on a very light run. Near 850 feeders expected for the auction.

Slaughter Steers: Choice 2-5 pkg 1,560 lbs. 66.40. Select and Choice 2-4 pkg 1,335 lbs. 68.00.

Holstein Steers: Select and Choice 2-3 few 1,400-1,625 lbs. 62.75-65.25.

Slaughter Heifers: No test.

Slaughter Cows: Premium White 70-75 percent lean; Breaking 70-80 percent lean; Boning 80-85 percent lean 44.00-47.25; Lean 85-90 percent lean 40.75-46.50, 37.00-40.00 (low dressing).

Slaughter Bulls: No test.

Hogs: 500.

Compared to Thursday, barrows and gilts sold 1.00 lower. 47-50 percent lean 220-260 lbs. 31.00-31.50; 47-50 percent lean 260-270 lbs. 30.00-30.50; 46-48 percent lean 270-280 lbs. 29.00-29.50.

Sows: Steady to 3.00 lower.

U.S. 1-3: under 400 lbs. 27.00; 400-500 lbs. 28.00; 500-550 lbs. 29.00; 550-600 lbs. 30.00; over 600 lbs. 32.00.

Boars: Steady. under 300 lbs. 22.00; 300-700 lbs. 14.00.

Sheep: 100.

Compared to Thursday, all classes sold steady. Supply near 80 percent slaughter lambs, 10 percent slaughter ewes and 10 percent feeder lambs.

Slaughter Lambs: Shorn: Old Crop: Choice, few Prime 2-3 110-140 lbs. with 1-2 pelts 61.00-63.00. Wooled: Old Crop: Choice, end Prime 2-3 110-140 lbs. 56.00-58.00.

Slaughter Ewes: Utility and Good 22.00-25.00. Cull 18.00-22.00.

Feeder Lambs: Medium and Large 1-2 old crop: 60-100 lbs. 50.00-70.00.

New crop: 50-80 lbs. 70.00-80.00.
