Raider baseball

For the offensive minded baseball fan, Sunday's games between the Central Lakes College Raiders and the Mesabi Range Norsemen were heaven.

The two teams combined to put 56 runs on the scoreboard and smack 49 hits as Mesabi won game one 14-13 while the Raiders won the second 18-11.

In the first game Blake Thorson had two doubles, while Danny Saehr and Aaron Jenkins each collected two RBI.

In game two, Matt Lehrer was 3-for-6 with three RBI and Tom Stevens chipped in with two hits and three RBI. Dan Krueger had three RBI.

Bryan Hennen picked up the win on the mound as well as getting two hits and two RBI. Mitch Weber added two RBI in the win.

The Raider face North Division rival Itasca 1 p.m. Thursday.

Raiders open with sweep

Pete Marjamaa pitched a complete game, giving up four hits, as the Raiders opened their season Saturday with a 12-2 win over the Vermilion Ironmen.

The Raiders won game two of the doubleheader 5-4.

Marjamaa was 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBI as the Raiders pounded out 13 hits in the first game. Jenkins was 3-4 with three RBI and Dave Schneider added two hits, including a double, and three RBI.

The second game wasn't as easy as the Raiders used last-inning heroics to gain the victory.

Trailing 4-3 in the seventh, Marjamaa doubled to tie the game. Nick Meteer, pinch ran for Marjamaa and scored the winning run on Dan Krueger's base hit to give the Raiders the win.

Pitcher Tom Stevens kept the game close and picked up the win.

Danny Saehr was 3-3, while Jenkins, Hennen and Marjamaa each added two hits. Marjamaa drove in three runs.
