There is a campaign for funds going on right now that deserves the support of every business and professional man and woman in our area. The drive is called Outreach 81 and its sole purpose is to raise money so that the fine attributes of this general area can be advertised.

30 years ago (1971)

Eugene Swanson was named as postmaster in Brainerd according to an announcement from Postmaster General Winton M. Blount. Swanson, 55, joined the Postal Service in May of 1951 as a clerk in Brainerd.

40 years ago (1961)

A four-lane expressway, bypassing Brainerd from Paul Bunyan Center to Highway 371 in the vicinity of Barrows, is included in a ten-year road construction program announced this week by the Minnesota State Highway Department.

60 years ago (1941)

Five Crow Wing County men left today for induction in the U.S. Army at Ft. Snelling under the Selective Service. At the same time, it was announced that nine more men will be called to leave here April 28.

80 years ago (1921)

J.F. Cibuzar, who recently bought the Cullen Pop Factory, has now bought the Sargent Factory and will consolidate the two. Mr. Cibuzar is daily increasing his business and increasing his list of patrons.
