In answer to the Tuesday comment about the state employees, each contract we lose health insurance benefits, take on more responsibilities as people retire or leave and are not replaced. Our raises are not over 3 percent. Someone should check the facts.
Do you think if I stood on a street somewhere and tried to sell two stickers and a plastic card to anyone for a total of $93 they would buy it? I'm guessing you're saying, "You're crazy!" So why then did I and every other person who wants the privilege of driving a vehicle have to pay $69 for two stickers (license tabs) for a car that's nine years old and $24 for a plastic card (renewed driver's license) at the DMV? What a rip-off.
Isn't it sad to think that someone has time to make comments in regard to why someone's Christmas decorations are still up? What makes it even more stressful is that several of my decorations in my yard disappeared - three deer and several strings of lights. Indeed the snow was deep and several decorations frozen, making it impossible to remove in the cold of winter. Were the decorations hurting anyone? No. Wherever my decorations are, enjoy them and remember most people that make the effort to decorate are doing so to share the gift of Christmas - faith, love and joy.
What is a snow emergency route in Brainerd? We live in northeast Brainerd on a snow emergency route. This last snowstorm, which we received 8 inches of snow I read in the Brainerd Dispatch, we did not get plowed until 11:20 a.m. What is wrong with the city crew? Wake up. It is driven by bus drivers.
Among all the gloom and doom I want to share a little sunshine. I called with questions about an increase in the market value and property taxes on my home. I was told property value has increased in the state of Minnesota - maybe the only state that has increased property value. How lucky can we be?
To all organizations who send children fundraising door to door, please give each child an envelope with a blank receipt with the organization's name and amount received space. In this way, people could donate cash to the organization but not enter the lottery, buy candy or cookies or items that may not be needed. Time and again, we have had children refuse our donation because they had no way to receive the cash and they were uncomfortable with even taking a check.
