Pauline S. Christiansen, 89, Brainerd, died Thursday, April 1, 2004, at St. Joseph's Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 26, 1914, in St. Louis, Mo., to Edward and Pauline (Woerheide) Stimson. She attended Soldan School from 1920 to 1932, in St. Louis, Mo. She earned her BA at Washington University in St. Louis from 1932 to 1936. She earned her Masters at the Teacher's College at the Columbia University in New York from 1936-1937. She placed fourth out of 2,000 people in the Archery Championship in 1936. During the summers of 1940 and 1941 she attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison as a graduate student. She was a registrar, Dean of Women, and Head of Women's Phys Ed Department at the Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa, from 1937-1941. She then was the Head of the Women's phys ed program and served on the Student Union Executive Board at the Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, from 1941-1944. She was the Camp Miniwanca leader in 1943 in Michigan. She served with the American Red Cross from 1944-1948 where she met her husband in Michigan. She married Guy Christiansen on March 20, 1950, in St. Louis, Mo., and they lived in Minneapolis from 1950-1953. They then lived in Calmer, Iowa, until 1955 moving to Richfield, Minn., until Guy retired in 1978 where she was a member of Hope Presbyterian Church. At that time they moved to Baxter and became members of the First Presbyter-ian Church in Brainerd. She has been at Woodland Good Samaritan Village since 1990.
Survived by: Her husband: Guy, of Brainerd; Her children: Richard (Peg), of Cedar Key, Fla.; Barbara (Jim) Fransen, of Hewitt; Carol Christiansen and her special friend Celo V'ec; John, of Chanhassen; Her grandchildren: E.G., of Cedar Key, Fla.; Pepper, of Atlanta, Ga.; Luke and Matthew Fransen, both of Fargo; Laila Gatts, of Golden Valley; Jacob Gatts, of Little Falls; Deanna Wirth and Brian Wirth, both of Cedar Key, Fla.; Sam Strickland and Todd Strickland, both of Ga.; One great grandson: Aiden Gatts. She was preceded by her parents and her brothers, Ed and George.
Services will be Monday April 6, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the Woodland Good Samaritan Village Chapel in Brainerd with Pastor Harold Tongen officiating. Interment will be in Hope Cemetery in Eagle Bend. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the Woodland Chapel.
