BHS senior dies of gunshot

A Brainerd High School senior is dead after being shot in the neck early Saturday morning in what appears to be an accident, said Crow Wing County Sheriff Eric Klang.

Daniel Louis Fleischhacker, 18, of Daggett Brook Township, died at his home, located off County Road 139, from a gunshot wound from a long gun, said Klang.

The sheriff's department responded to a call at 3:08 a.m. Saturday.

Klang said Fleischhacker was at the home with two friends at the time of the shooting. His parents also were at the home sleeping. No one else in the home was hurt.

Klang said at this time he does not know who shot Fleischhacker. The county sheriff's department and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension investigated the scene Saturday.

"I don't believe foul play was involved at this point," said Klang. "We don't believe that alcohol was involved. Everything I say now is only speculation."

Klang said deputies interviewed the friends, but he could not comment on the findings and said further investigation is needed.
