There are already people grousing about how Obama and the Democratic majority are spending too much and taxing too much. How soon they forget about George W. Bush's record budget deficits, plus the worst economic meltdown since 1929 - despite the lowest tax rate for the wealthy in recent history. In fact, President Obama's proposed top marginal tax rate of 39.6 percent is lower than the average top marginal tax rate of 52.38 percent under all Republican presidents (source: Daily Kos).
I can't guarantee that Obama's budget proposals will revitalize our economy, but I agree with his belief that the best way to resolve the current economic crisis is to build in long-term changes in the way we do business, starting with renewable energy. In addition, the key to prosperity in a democratic nation is the health of the middle class, including affordable health care, competitive education for our youth and incentives for small business.
If you disagree with President Obama's ideas, give the administration some constructive alternatives. Obama has shown a willingness to listen to all reasonable input. For the good of our country, we must all pull together.
Get screened early
March was National Colon Cancer Awareness Month. My daughter, Gloria passed away on March 20, 2009, from stage four colon cancer at the age of 50. She was diagnosed on June 6, 2008. One of her objectives when she turned 50 was to get a colonoscopy. She was diagnosed three weeks after her 50th birthday, before she had that chance to get screened. Unfortunately, the cancer had already developed and had metastasized (spread) to her liver and other internal organs. She did not have any symptoms prior to her diagnosis, other than an occasional diarrhea and stomach cramps. She did not get the chance to see her first grandchild.
Her advice to everyone is, be aware and get screened before the magic age of 50. That could already be too late.
Sadly missed by everyone who knew her, especially, her family.
Who are the liars?
On March 19 there was a letter written by a Republican. On March 26 there was a letter written by a Democrat. Now a letter by an American citizen. First and foremost, I personally got to witness a purchase of a garden fork from a hardware store in Crow Wing County. On the sticker it said, Union made in big letters, underneath in small letters, Made in the U.S.A. This fork cost $35 plus tax. Stamped on the metal tines on the fork was Made in Indonesia. Now I will believe the stamp before I believe a union sticker or the people that support the unions. I'm not pointing fingers - just pointing out the facts. Attention: Check all union made products and see where they were made. Then you decide American citizen who are the liars.

Dog was hit-and-run victim
I would like to say no thank you to the person who hit our family dog.
When we finally found him, he was on the corner of Inglewood and Woida, a four-way stop.
You were traveling too fast on this road, and apparently never stopped at the stop sign. It is a four-way stop.
We have many children in our neighborhood; you are lucky it wasn't a child. Your headlight and such is still where you left it. Why don't you come clean up your mess and apologize to my son.
And yes I know the dog should be tied. He got loose.
