Donna Hasskamp

CROSBY - Donna Mary Denis Hasskamp, age 87, of Crosby, died on Monday, March 30, 2009, at the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby.

She was born in Brainerd on Nov. 23, 1921, to George and Esther (Zakeriasen) Denis. She married Robert "Bob" Hasskamp on Nov. 14, 1946, in Brainerd.

Donna graduated from the Brainerd High School class of 1940. She continued her education at the St. Michael's Nursing School and became a registered nurse in 1944. Her nursing career spanned 45 years. She was a WWII Army nurse with a rank of second lieutenant. She was employed at St. Joseph's Hospital, Brainerd; Northern Pacific Hospital, St. Paul; Sister Kenny Polio Hospital, Covina, Calif.; Miners Hospital, Crosby; Crosby Clinic, Hospital and Nursing Home; Brainerd State Hospital (Building 22); and St. Mary's Hospital (Psych Program), Minneapolis.

She is a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Crosby; the National Order of Catholic Foresters, St. Mary's Court No. 854, St. Joseph's Altar Society and the Cuyuna Range Women's Club. She was a former member and past president of C-I P.T.A.; former member of Band Mothers, Girl Scouts leader, Catholic Contact leader, Charter member of the Brainerd Jobs Daughters. Donna had many special interests including quality time with her family, bridge, crossword puzzles, reading, acting in community plays, writing, aquasize and campaigning for her daughter, Kris.

She is survived by four daughters, Mary Kay (Kent) Lacy, of Eagan, Anne (Sam) Sambar, of Milwaukee, Roberta (Mike) Whitney, of Blaine, and former state Rep. Kris Hasskamp, of Crosby; granddaughters, Sara (Mike) Kost and Ami (John) Stanton; grandsons, Adam and Mark Johnson; great-grandchildren, Brenyn, Katie and Brianna; brother, Peter (Mildred) Denis, of Brainerd, and Rhinelander, Wis.; sister-in-law, Dr. Patricia (Hasskamp) Crew, of Lakewood, Calif.; several nieces and nephews; family friend, Nancy Petroske; and longtime friend, Mary Ada Landree.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bob, and her parents.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Crosby.

Burial will be at the Lakewood Cemetery in Crosby. Friends may call on Friday at the Koop Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. and on Saturday one hour prior to the services at the church.
