20 years ago (1990)

The Brainerd City Council, in a special noon meeting, has approved a taxicab license for Brainerd Bus Lines, an affiliate of Reichert Bus Service. Brainerd has been without taxi service since December and it is hoped that the new service will begin in April.

30 years ago (1980)

Brainerd's new Crime Stopper program solved its first crime this weekend , providing information that cracked a major arson-vandalism case. Acting on a tip, the sheriff's office arrested three juveniles for burning down a building at Roberts Sand & Gravel.

40 years ago (1970)

(Photo) Crow Wing County census enumerators were receiving training today in the Friendship Room for their duties in gathering federal census data. Tomorrow workers will start calling on county homes where they will pick up forms delivered by postmen.

60 years ago (1950)

Taylor Hanks, 35, an Indian from the Mille Lacs reservation, was under guard at the Milaca jail charged with killing his wife, infant son and grandfather with an axe. Authorities assert he killed his kin while crazed with liquor after a dispute.

100 years ago (1910)

The Dispatch is in receipt of a letter from a lady in East Brainerd stating that the proposed ordinance on chickens should also include dogs, which are tearing up gardens and flowers. She has had more loss in her garden from dogs than from chickens.
