A Franklin Junior High School student was suspended for carrying a knife on school grounds March 14.
Franklin Principal Willy Severson said, following Brainerd School District policy, the student has been suspended for 10 days for the incident.
The knife was a folding pocket knife, Severson said, and the student concealed it in the school and displayed it to other students.
"It was inadvertent," Severson said.
Under the school's weapons and assault policy, a student in violation can be suspended up to 10 days -- at the school's discretion -- and the police are notified about the incident.
The incident also will be under the advisement of Jerry Walseth, Brainerd School District superintendent, who may consider expulsion of the student.
The Brainerd Police Department also reported charges are being considered in the incident.
A similar incident occurred at Franklin more than a year ago. On March 9, 2000, a student was suspended for having a knife on school grounds. In that case, however, the student had accidentally brought the knife to school, forgetting it was in his jacket.
