Fishing
Minnesota Report
By Outdoor News
CROSBY AREA
If there's a lake you can still get on, the crappie and sunfish activity has been very good in shallow water throughout the area. The ice is deteriorating quickly around the edges of most lakes so call before venturing out. Most backwater and channel areas will start producing crappies within a week to ten days if the warm weather continues.
HACKENSACK AREA
The shorelines have taken a beating in recent days, although there was quite a bit of ice fishing activity last weekend. Depending on the weather this week, there's a chance you might be able to sneak one more weekend on the ice in this area. Look to Pleasant Lake for suspended crappies over 26 feet of water. The bays of Woman Lake and shallow areas of Lindsey Lake might be worth noting for bluegills if the ice holds.
LAKE MILLE LACS
A few anglers were on the lake last weekend and found moderate perch success. By Monday night, most shorelines were pulled away too far to access the lake. Resort accesses also are closed putting an end to any thoughts of ice fishing.
LEECH LAKE AREA
Plan on walking and call ahead for ice conditions by this weekend. The best perch reports are coming from the Narrows, Sand Point and behind Bear Island in 10 to 15 feet. Panfish reports from Shingobee Bay have been limited and the tullibee bite has been slow. Look to the deep water off Stoney Point and Pine Point for the most tullibee numbers.
ST. CLOUD/EDEN VALLEY AREA
The ice fishing season is over. The shorelines are open and the ice that remains is black and deteriorating daily. If the melt continues through the week for the channels and culvert areas on the Horseshoe Chain of Lakes to start producing crappies soon.
