Arthur E. Maron

McGREGOR -- Arthur E. Maron, 85, McGregor, died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at Riverwood Health Care Center of Aitkin.

He was born Aug. 29, 1914, in Finlayson, to Reinhold and Karoline (Abel) Maron. He attended schools in Finlayson, Tamarack and graduated from McGregor High School in 1931. He worked at the Creamery in Tamarack, drove a bus and logged in his early days. He married Helen Buck on Aug. 5, 1939, in McGregor. During World War II, he worked for Northern Pump in Minneapolis and then for North Central Airlines. He returned to McGregor and operated several businesses including the Feed Store, Maron's Resort Store and the McGregor IGA. He then worked as a carpenter for a number of years. He worked at the University of Minnesota Heart Hospital in the engineering department and retired back to McGregor in 1976. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church of McGregor and a charter member of the McGregor Lions Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Berg, Reno, Nev.; two grandchildren; two brothers, Oscar Maron and Raynold Maron, both of McGregor; and two sisters, Helen Merrill, McGregor, and Dorothy Sleen, Duluth.

His wife, a brother, Lester, and a sister, Alice, died earlier.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church of McGregor with the Rev. Henry Koopman officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery of McGregor.

Friends may call at McGregor Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. Thursday and at the church an hour before services Friday.
