County, state forest trails closed to motorized vehicles
Due to vulnerable surfaces during the spring thaw, some county and state forest trails in Crow Wing County are temporarily closed to motorized vehicles.
Signs are posted on closed trails, which will be monitored by Crow Wing County and DNR forestry staff. When surfaces improve the closures will be lifted.
Townships and cities where trail closures exist are identified on the county web site at www.co.crow-wing.mn.us. Click on "What's New" and then "Closed Trails." Phone the Land Department at 824-1115 for more information. For information on state trails, phone (888) 646-6367 or log onto the DNR web site at www.dnr.state.mn.us.
"One thing we're seeing right now," said Tim Browning, DNR field operations manager, "is people riding motorcycles and ATVs on snowmobile trails, which predominantly are on private land and not open to public use. Permission is given only for snowmobiling. If you're going to ride you really need to check the county and DNR web sites and find out where you can ride."
