Brainerd's rifle team, with Bill Ulm firing 386 and John Evans 380, scored its first win of the campaign in the Paul Bunyan Rifle League defeating Grand Rapids by a 16-point margin. John Hall posted a 377, Frank Hay 373 and Vince Kampmann 369.

More than 200 persons turned out for the meeting called at the Courthouse last night by County Assessor Harold Martinson for the purpose of explaining the new plan to equalize all real property in the county at 33 1/3 percent of its market value.

Veterans of the Northern Pacific Railroad and there are some in Brainerd who are members of the Association, dipped deep into their money chest to purchase National Defense bonds. The amount purchased was approximately $1,036 in these war time gilt-edge securities.

At the Turcotte Store is a Mason jar water tank for baby chicks. The jar is two-thirds full of water, reclines on its side and has a patent opening and self-feeding attachment which keeps the water at a certain level at the opening. The great puzzle with everybody is what keeps the water from flowing out at the trough end.

Painters have commenced to work on the old Hose House, next to the Opera House, and in a few days the building will fairly dazzle with a new coat of paint.
