BAXTER -- George J. Kastanek, 73, Baxter, died Monday, March 27, 2000, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd.
He was born Aug. 1, 1926, in Becker Township, Cass County, to Edward and Anna (Tichy) Kastanek. He attended Workmans School and Staples High School. He served in the Army during World War II, serving one year in Korea. He worked for various companies in Staples. In 1953, he started working for the Brainerd Nash-Finch Co. until his retirement. He married Donna Hagenson on June 6, 1955, at the Staples Methodist Church. He lived his entire married life in the Brainerd area. He was a member of the American Legion Post 0443 of Ironton and a member of Park United Methodist Church in Brainerd.
Survivors include his wife; two brothers, Bob Kastanek, Browerville, and Arnold Kastanek, Fridley.
His parents, a brother, Rudolph, and a sister, Blanche, died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Park United Methodist Church in Brainerd with Pastor Rory Swenson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples with VFW Post 1910 providing military honors.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd and one hour before services at the church.
