Darleen S. Mattson

MILACA -- Darleen S. Mattson, 72, Milaca, died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at St. Cloud Hospital.

She was born Nov. 1, 1927, near Billings, Mo. to James and Clara (Schmidt) Smith. She graduated from Marionville High School in 1945 and from Southwest Missouri State College in Springfield, Mo. in 1951. She married Paul Mattson on Dec. 16, 1950, in Antlers, Okla. They moved to Dailey Township in 1953 and farmed until the late 1980s. She was a 4-H leader and a member of First United Methodist Church of Milaca. She taught Sunday school there. After working as a teacher and retail clerk, she was a media specialist for 21 years at the Milaca High School.

Survivors include three sons, Mathew J. Mattson, Bemidji, Mark Mattson, Atlanta, Ga., and John Mattson, Brainerd; a daughter, Susan Halena, St. Cloud; seven grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Clemmons, Seattle, Wash., and Anna Wickham, Bakersfield, Calif.

Her husband, her parents, a brother, and a sister, died earlier.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca with the Rev. Kevin Dunn officiating. Burial will be in Salem Lutheran Cemetery near Isanti.

Friends may call at Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca for an hour before services Friday.
