The recent production of "Brother Truckers" at Central Lakes College is being considered for inclusion at the Region V American College Theatre Festival in Denver next January. Final determination will not be made until December.
This is the first time CLC has received such a nomination, said Director Patrick Spradlin. If chosen, the cast would be invited to perform at the regional festival in 2004.
"Brother Truckers" tells the tale of the brothers Fabrinski, Lech and Flem, two gypsy trash haulers making a living off the refuse of Brooklyn.
The cast for "Brother Truckers," which was performed Feb. 20-March 2 at CLC, included Matt Cummings of Deerwood, Doug Larson of Red Wing, Tom Vasecka of Motley, Mike Thole of Laporte, Tony Craig of Pequot Lakes, and Josh Anderson, Nichole Carey, Rande Erickson and Maureen Stanton, all of of Brainerd.
The CLC production embraces as its concept the style of the comic book. Accordingly, the scenery designed by Michael Harvey was entirely two-dimensional, placed before backgrounds of projected scenery.
If chosen, the production would be one of six presented at the regional festival. The region includes colleges and universities in Minnesota, the Dakotas, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado.
The inclusion of "Brother Truckers" at the regional festival would make this production eligible for selection to the 2004 national ACTF held at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., an event held in April.
