BAXTER - Joseph Franklin Zaleski, age 70, resident of Baxter, died Sunday, March 23, 2008, at his home. Joseph was born in Detroit, on Jan. 12, 1938, to Joseph and Regina (Gilmer) Zaleski. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy Seabees, serving three tours of duty in Vietnam. He was united in marriage to Lorraine on June 6, 1973, in Sisseton, S.D. He worked for the Brainerd Dispatch for 17 years. Joseph loved to fish and hunt, tell jokes, cook, play cribbage and crossword puzzles. He was an excellent father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; his children, Twyila (Pat) Parker, Michelle (Terry) Underland, Curtis (Beth) Watson, Jeffrey (Julie) Watson; seven grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; two brothers, James Patrick and Gerald (Kathy) Zaleski; numerous nieces and nephews; special friend, Randy Janowiak.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and his son.

Services will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at First Presbyterian Church in Brainerd with Pastor Harold Tongen officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery with military honors by Brainerd American Legion Post No. 255 Color Guard. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd and the hour before services at the church on Wednesday.
