VERNDALE -- James "Jim" Dailey, a resident of Verndale, died March 22, 2005, at St. Cloud Hospital. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 26, at 10 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples with the Rev. Steven Sveom officiating. Friends may visit Friday, March 25, from 5-7 p.m. at Brenny Funeral Home in Staples and at the church during the hour prior to services on Saturday. Interment will be at West Lyons Cemetery near Oylen.
James Edward Dailey was born Sept. 12, 1945, in Wadena to Edward and Esther (Hansen) Dailey. He graduated from Staples High School in 1963. He worked as a shoe salesman for J.C. Penney Co. in Wadena. On March 17, 1965, he was united in marriage to Connie Pavlacky in Sisseton, S.D. He worked for Gibson Discount Centers from 1966 until 1987, working his way up from assistant manager to executive vice president. His family moved with him to Omaha, Neb., as his career advanced. In 1987, he began work for the CR Anthony Co., a subsidiary of Gibson, in Oklahoma City, Okla., where he worked as executive vice president until retiring in 1995. Following six years of leisure, Jim went to work for True Value Hardware in Staples for two years, until health issues forced him to retire. Jim and Connie recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. He attended Faith Lutheran Church in Staples. He was proud of his family and enjoyed his grandchildren very much. He was a very giving man who was well liked and had many friends. Generous with his own brand of sensible advice, his opinion and guidance was often sought by family and friends. He loved to golf and enjoyed fishing. Deer hunting was a valued family tradition. According to his family, Jim packed a hundred years of living into the 59 years he spent on this earth.
Jim is survived by his wife, Connie; his children, James Jr. (Shelley) Dailey, of Omaha, Neb., Brenda (Chris) Miles, of Staples, Roxane (Dave) Hoover, of Omaha, Neb., and Ginger (Nathan) Fields, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; his parents, Edward Dailey, of Deer Creek, and Esther Dailey, of Wadena; siblings, Roger (Debbie) Dailey, of Wadena, Phyllis Dailey, of Deer Creek, and Janice (Gene) Lenk, of Staples; grandchildren, Lea, Greg, Christopher, Ashley, Lacey and Makenna; and many extended family members and friends.
A sister and brother-in-law, Ernie and Beverly Jean Sarkela, preceded him in death. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Home of Staples.
