Save the woodticks
Sen. Koering, run, not walk, to St. Paul and get a bill to protect our woodticks from abuse at the Cuyuna woodtick races. Otherwise we won't have any ticks for our tourists. Maybe Pawlenty and Coleman can help you pass this law.
Mismanagement of money
Why do we continuously spend money on an airport runway when there are only a few flights?
Shame on you
The protesters must now bear responsibility for what happens to American POWs. Former Persian Gulf POWs have said that only force and the unanimity of the American people got them out. Hussein has been emboldened by the protesters and thinks that gruesome pictures will cause Americans to lose their will.
Get the facts straight
Thursday's Vox Pop writer should get his facts straight so his comments do not mislead readers. Sen. Paul Koering is not putting hunting and fishing ahead of senior companions and foster grandparent programs. He is not allocating money for this fund; the money would be a tiny part of the sales tax that is already being collected. Hunting and fishing are important parts of the economy of this area and the state. This fund would preserve and enhance these assets. The voters would decide in 2004 if they wish to pass a constitutional amendment setting up this fund.
I noticed that a picture in The Dispatch of the Brainerd High School walkout was a student that had a sign that stated, "Bomb Saddam and towel heads." I am absolutely disgusted that someone would be so openly racist. Terms like "rag head" and "towel head" are extremely offensive and equivalent to calling someone the "n" word.
Send in the military
I fail to understand how killing people of Iraq or any other country, or destroying their infrastructure, is liberating them. How did the focus go from avenging American loss of life by renegade terrorists in Afghanistan to "liberating" Iraq? Why is our nation the one who decides who needs to be liberated anyway? American women are still waiting to be liberated. Send in the military.
I was offended by a photo published in a special section of the Brainerd Daily Dispatch. The photo shows a couple of Brainerd High School students holding a protest sign that reads "Bomb Saddam & Towel Heads." Calling people "towel heads" is promoting racism. Racist attitudes lead to violence and intolerance of other people and their cultures.
Cost of war
Today Bush goes before Congress asking for $75 billion dollars more for a down payment on the invasion of Iraq. That is just a down payment on Bush's "new war." This will make for the largest one-year deficit in the nation's history. The huge Bush tax cuts for the wealthy will result in deep cuts in services for ordinary Americans to pay for this war. Every cruise missile that hits (or misses) will cost us $1 million dollars.
