20 years ago (1989)

With $725,000 in bank notes coming due in April, Colin Hall revealed a last-ditch financing plan for his Brainerd International Trade Center project. The three largest notes to local banks are guaranteed by the city's EDA.

30 years ago (1979)

The first day of spring was ushered in last week by what many residents hope will be the last snowfall of an all-too-long winter season. And the question for the city becomes "where to store it all."

40 years ago (1969)

Ron Albers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Albers, Brainerd, has graduated from the University of South Florida. He is attending officer's training school at Lackland AFB, and then will begin training as a jet pilot.

60 years ago (1949)

The Tyler, Texas Apaches led all the way in defeating the Brainerd Junior College Red Raiders 78-63 in the quarterfinals of the national JC tourney. Chuck Warnberg led Brainerd with 22 points. Brainerd beat Campbell College 70-68 in the first round.

80 years ago (1929)

Mail travels slowly to and from the South Pole. Best wishes sent by Mr. and Mrs. T. T. Blackburn, of Brainerd, to their son Quinn, were mailed on Nov. 27 and arrived there Jan. 27. His reply, mailed Jan. 28, arrived here yesterday.

100 years ago (1909)

Ed Rogers, Walker attorney and former University of Minnesota football player, was in Brainerd on his way to Minneapolis, accompanied by his wife and son, Punk Webster Rogers, age 2 months.
