Ron and Tom need male role models

Is there anything you would change about yourself?

How many times have you been asked or contemplated this question? What responses automatically come to mind? Is it your height, your weight, how much money you make or items you desire to have? More often than not we think of a physical attribute or a personal possession we desire when asked this question.

However, for the majority of our waiting Kinship kids, the response has more to do with the situation of their lives, than any desire for physical change or "stuff." Take these two brothers, Tom (11) and Ron (9) for example, when asked this question, they responded by saying, "I would like to have more friends in my life."

So often we get caught up in physical or material concerns that we often forget that what really matters is the relationships we have with others, knowing that we are accepted and loved. And for children this need for acceptance and friendship is so necessary for their development.

Tom and Ron are two boys in dire need of a male role model. Both are normal active boys with the desire to do "guy stuff" and learn how things work. They are both academically bright, but suffer from a lack of male role models in their lives. More than anything they need a listening ear and someone who can help boost their self-esteem. Tom and Ron need someone to be their friend, someone they can depend on and someone who will show them that they do matter and are special.
