Thirty-nine Central Lakes College nursing students have received $40,000 since the Dr. Don Wennberg Health Professional Scholarship began.
Bonnie Groneberg, director of nursing at St. Joseph's Medical Center, Brainerd, recently presented the latest $10,000 check to Diane Scearcy, CLC Foundation director. The annual donation since 2000-01 originated a scholarship in the name of longtime surgeon, Dr. Wennberg, who had retired.
Each student award is $1,000 (with the exception of one tie), offered to practical and registered nursing students meeting criteria that include hours employed by St. Joseph's or the Bethany and Woodland Good Samaritan centers.
A scholarship committee reviews applications and selects the recipients for payment to students during the spring term.
This spring's recipients are Henry Collins, Merrifield; Amber Craft, Motley; Sheila Cray, Brainerd; Jan Hegman, Aitkin; Sonja Rubbelke Jackovich, Baxter; Yolanda Jensen, Nisswa; Korey Kampen, Brainerd; Nicole Sassen, Little Falls; Christina Thell, Baxter; and Jody Tretter, Pierz.
